Illustration Friday: "Glamour"

Illustration Friday: "Glamour"
(water color)
This is my second stab at watercolors. I decided I needed to give it a good try, so I bought some water color paper and some very good brushes (Cirrus Kolinsky Sable's - one i each size) and my goodness, what a cost that was!!! Anyhow, I decided that to me, Glamour is a Geisha. I had wanted more detail in the background but was having issues on what layer to start on. I am thinking you need to do the background first, not last? Ugh... I'll catch on one day.

I have the WORST time with faces (mainly, eyes and lips!) So, for the glamour idea, I also wanted to work on sketching faces. This is just a quick sketch of Zhang Ziyi so I could practice. I think the eyes and mouth came out horrid, but Linda (my wife) says I am way too critical.

Hello!
Um..your wife's probably right, 'cos I don't see much wrong with the mouth and the eyes! :D For someone who has the worst time with faces, you did great! And really like the way you got the folds on the geisha's dress in the other one...
Cheerio!
beautiful illo!
simple, eleghant, love the blue and rich red texture of her coat
I like the sketch-you may indeed be too critical
I love the elegant umbrella piece. Listen to your wife...this one is wonderful!

I agree with your wife you are being to critical with yourself. You did an excellant job with the watercolor and sketch.

The Tart & The Fireman!
I think you did a great job! Very retty colors on the watercolor piece, I think you have brought out the glamour from that movie.
You certainly did a wonderful job with the zen painting. It's so calm yet glamourous!
You have a natural flair for watercolours and glamorous!
Thank you everyone for the strong encouragements! I will keep at it!
I'm sure it's beautiful, assuming that the lady you drew a picture of looks like that!
